Sky House

A residence shaped by arched windows, sculptural furnishings, and art at every turn asks something particular of its floor: restraint. In a room where nearly every element makes a statement, the floor must provide a quiet and continuous foundation.

Working closely with the interior design team, we specified quartersawn Northern Hard Maple planks for their straight, composed grain and understated character. The wood was bleached to soften its natural variation and custom-stained through successive rounds of sampling. The final tone is warm enough to temper the white interior, yet pale enough to emphasize the arches and carry daylight deep into the plan.

The craftsmanship lives in details designed to go unnoticed. Plank runs align with the axes of the arched openings. Clean scribes define the points where the maple meets plaster reveals and casework. Transitions remain perfectly flush from gallery to living room, allowing the floor to read as a single, uninterrupted ground for the furnishings and artwork above it.
