Tropical Oasis

In this double-height room framed by glass and tropical foliage, the floor was designed to bring order and warmth to an otherwise expansive interior. American Black Walnut, laid in a precise herringbone pattern, establishes a quiet geometry beneath the room while holding its own against the dense green landscape beyond.

Each piece was hand-selected for the rich tonal variation and expressive grain characteristic of the wood. The herringbone was carefully scaled to the proportions of the space and aligned to guide the eye through the room. A natural oil finish deepens the walnut’s chocolate and amber tones while preserving the texture and clarity of the grain underfoot.

Miami’s climate demanded equal attention to what lies beneath the finished surface. The walnut was acclimated on site, moisture conditions were carefully monitored, and the installation was planned to accommodate seasonal movement. Precise milling and placement ensure that every angle remains true across the full span of the pattern.
