The Landing

In this double-height residence overlooking Biscayne Bay, the floor was conceived in response to an interior shaped almost entirely by glass. Exceptionally wide American White Oak planks extend across the full breadth of the space in long, continuous runs. Custom-finished in a pale, restrained tone, the floor carries daylight deep into the room while creating a sense of calm beneath the water and skyline.

The custom finish was developed to complement the view rather than compete with it. The pale white oak receives the changing light and maintains a soft, even warmth throughout the day. Because a floor this light reveals every variation, each board was hand-selected for consistency of tone and grain. The finished surface reads as a unified plane rather than a sequence of individual boards.

The conditions of the site demanded equal precision beneath the surface. Direct sunlight and bay humidity can affect the color and movement of wood over time. The wood was acclimated on site, and the installation was planned to accommodate seasonal movement across the full span. A low-sheen matte finish protects the material while preserving its natural tone and subtle reflection.
