Atlantic View

Where the Atlantic meets architecture, interiors are composed with the same care as the views they frame. Hand-laid floors, considered millwork, and finishes selected for the way light travels across water create rooms defined less by what is added than by what is quietly and exactingly made.

Here, wide center-cut American White Oak runs the full depth of the double-height space in long, continuous planks that draw the eye toward the water beyond the glass. The wood was wire-brushed to bring forward its natural grain, lightly bleached to soften its tone, and custom-finished to maintain a pale, even warmth throughout the day. Against the skyline and bay, a darker floor would have enclosed the room; this one preserves its openness and luminosity.

A floor this light reveals every variation, so each board was hand-selected for consistency of tone and grain. The completed surface reads as a continuous field rather than a sequence of individual planks. At this waterfront site, the oak was acclimated in place, and the installation was planned to accommodate seasonal movement across the full span.
